Two police officers were arrested in a sting operation on Wednesday for allegedly extorting money from public utility vehicle drivers in Pasay City.
Col. Ronald Lee, acting director of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG), identified on Thursday the suspects as Corporals Reynald Pallangeo Macwes and Jimuel Ilagan Bernal, both assigned at the Pasay City Community Precinct 7.
The two police officers were arrested inside the Grand Transport Terminal in Edsa, Malibay Pasay City around 2 p.m.
The suspects were arrested by IMEG and NCRPO agents after receiving a marked PHP100 bill from a driver.
Lee said the entrapment stemmed from intelligence information that the suspects, onboard a patrol car, are collecting PHP100 grease money from public utility buses and vans plying daily trips from transport terminals within the Malibay area.
The complainants sought help from the two cops’ superior, Capt. Mark Oyad.
They also alleged that instead of acting on the complaint, Oyad threatened to raise the daily collection to PHP1,000 for every trip of buses and vans.
Lee said an investigation against Oyad is underway.
The suspects are now under the custody of IMEG for documentation and proper disposition before the filing of appropriate criminal and administrative charges. (PNA)
