Malaysian PM Mahathir, sumunod sa yapak ni Duterte nag-backout sa ICC

Inanunsiyo ni Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad na hindi na aanib ang Malaysia sa International Criminal Court o ICC.

Pumirma ang Malaysia noong Marso sa Rome Statute, founding treaty ng ICC, pero kailangan pa itong ma-ratify para pormal na maging miyembro ng The Hague-based tribunal.

Tinuligsa ng oposisyon ang desisyong ito ni Mahathir dahil mapapahina umano nito ang mga pribilehiyo ng Malays maging ang immunity ng siyam na Malay state rulers.

Noong Biyernes sinabi ni Mahathir na nagdesisyon ang kanyang gabinete na huwag nang i-ratify ang Rome Statute dahil minanipula umano ito ng kanilang mga kalaban.

“This is not because we are against it but because of the political confusion about what it entails, caused by people with vested interest. I see this as a way to blacken my face because they know they cannot oust me easily,” paliwanag ng 93-anyos na lider.
