VP Robredo kontra sa pagbabawal ng Ombudsman sa lifestyle check sa public officials

Kontra si Vice President Leni Robredo sa naging desisyon ng Ombudsman na itigil ang lifestyle check sa mga opisyal ng pamahalaan at pagbabawal sa pagsilip sa statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALNs).

“It is so sad. I read it multiple times. Because I could not believe it came from the head of an office whose duty is to investigate,” ani Robredo.

“It seemed like you’re giving license to public officials to hide their wealth which is wrong because that’s a requirement under the law and the Constitution,” dagdag nito.

Matatandaang ipinatigil ni Ombudsman Samuel Martires ang lifestyle check at ang pagsilip sa SALN sa mga opisyal ng gobyerno nitong mga nakaraang linggo dahil ginagamit umano ito mga pulito at media sa pangingikil.

“Public office is a public trust. We should try every day to gain people’s trust. That is the reason why SALN is a requirement,” giit ng bise.

“If you remove the SALN, what kind of message are you giving? Are you giving the public the message that corruption is not a priority of the government?” lahad pa nito.

Ang pagsusumite ng SALN ay nasa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 6173, o ang Code of Conducts and Ethical Standard for Public Officials and Employees.
